Nine Lives

These Nine Lives reflect my current working process of obscuring and revealing. My small paintings have been described as "excavational portraits" which suit the way I work- which is to assert via line; obscure via color/paint; and then excavate the face out of the color field. I work for that moment of the unexpected and emergence, as it feels like I never know who will show up. I hope you can see beyond the roughness of the current image's presentation: each painting is 6" x 5"; the internal grouping of 9 is 21" x 18" ,and it has been professionally cropped and framed to a size of 30" x 26".
